Diego's Fine Fair Fare

Located across from CBS’ Television City campus, squeezed next to a Subway and a Bagel Broker, you might have driven past Diego’s dozens of times and never even noticed it. Hell, if Google Street View is to be believed, it doesn't even exist. You’re missing out.
There’s an intimacy to Food Fair by Diego, like going to a cousin’s house for dinner. Go catch movie at the Grove, mosey north on Fairfax, and pop into the Fair. Take a seat on the long, communal bench, lean back against a throw pillow, and watch Diego Balam work his magic in the exposed kitchen. Bring along a few friends for dinner with a bottle of wine (no corkage fee!) and be adventurous with the seasonal menu. The homemade gnocchi and risotto change daily, and the pulled pork sandwich is last meal-decadent.
What transforms Diego’s from a great find to a weekly (daily?) obsession is their rotating $6 lunches. Subscribe to their Twitter feed (@foodfairbydiego) for the skinny on their daily choices; maybe it’s fish tacos, tomato bisque, or calzones. And every now and then, you can snag a perfectly-cooked steak sandwich for six bucks. Diego's specials evoke the spontaneous discovery of food truck dining, without the irritating treasure-map-hoop-jumping of food truck dining (no, Nom Nom, I'm not following you to Thousand Oaks.)
They also deliver, but where’s the fun in that? Drop in, give Diego a shout, and tuck into some inexpensive, beautifully prepared home-style cooking. And you wanted to go to Subway.
